Surviving the Alzheimer's for Caregivers

by Ted Lindsay 6. December 2009 23:49

I am a caregiver for an Alzheimer’s Sufferer.

How can one maintain his sanity while caring for a loved one with significant memory impairment? I believe the answer lies in enlisting more family and friends to assist with the care of the person who has dementia or Alzheimer's. Just one problem though, as the stages of memory impairment progress, fewer and fewer family and friends are "available" to help. Let’s face it; we’re all just human and if something is too uncomfortable, too inconvenient, or takes too much time out of one’s day; we all just find a way to not do it. Dealing with a memory impaired person is just one of these instances.

But for the primary caregiver to survive the disease himself, he’s got to have help. If not, let’s chalk up yet another victim for the tragic disease of alzheimers and memory loss.

Well, I believe MemoryMate™ will probably help millions of seniors maintain their independence longer while making caring for them much easier for caregivers.

I think it’s best feature is the fact that it can "conveniently" involve more people, we call them secondary caregivers, into the care activity for a Memory Impaired. MemoryMate™ is a Web based - PDA application. The impaired uses a super simplified PDA device while the primary and all the other caregivers use a Web browser on virtually any computer at any location. Just create any number of secondary caregiver accounts and whether they are at home, or have a break at work, they can just login to their MemoryMate™ account on our Web site and they are ready to go. The impaired receives messages, photos, phone calls to stay engaged along with having important dates, reminders, and other "surrogate memory" administered by the primary caregiver right on his or her PDA device.

The primary caregiver is no longer alone or a victim of the disease.

Check out MemoryMate™ I just touched on only a few of the features that have helped me to care for my mother who suffers from Alzheimers.

Sincerely,

   Ted
